It’s Not Just Flag Day

Hi everybody, it’s Sarah, your favorite About Flags blogger.

July 4th is nationally recognized as Independence Day, the birth of the United States of America. But there are two other integral holidays that are often overlooked close to the same time as The 4th: Flag Day and the birthday of the United States Army.

Both are celebrated on June 14th. This is when the flag of the United States was adopted in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. Also on this day in 1775, Congress adopted “the American continental army” after reaching a general agreement in The Committee of the Whole.

During the week of June 14th, President Obama will urge each and every citizen to fly their American flag with pride. All government buildings will have the flag on display. Let your patriotism abound! ‘Merica!
