Determining Flag Size

The length of the flag should be at least ¼ the height of the pole.  For example, a 40-foot pole requires a 6-foot x 10-foot flag or larger.  This guideline applies to poles 20 feet and larger.  Most residential flags are 3 feet x 5 feet or 4 feet x 6 feet.  Most small industrial and commercial buildings use either a 5-foot x 8-foot or a 6-foot x 10-foot flag.  Major industrial, municipal and government buildings require 8 feet x 12 feet and larger.  However the size of the pole is the determining factor.
