We have tried to show a variety of custom flag applications. There are many variables in pricing custom flags and custom banners. We have included terminology and methods of manufacturing below that should help you determine exactly what your requirements are.

Flag Terminology

Flags are usually rectangular in shape with canvas heading and brass grommets on the hoist. The fly hem is reinforced with a four-needle hem. They are usually horizontal, however, they can be made vertically for a special effect. Common sizes are 8″×12″, 12″×18″, 16″×24″, 20″×30″, 2′×3′, 3′×5′, 4′×6′, 5′×8′, 6′×10′, 8′×12′. We can advise recommended sizes if you tell us the height of your flagpole. A custom flag flown below the United States flag is often the same size or one or two sizes smaller than the U.S. We can make any shape or size you want.
Pennants are three-pointed flags usually finished with grommets on the hoist. Common sizes are 8″×12″, 12″×18″, 16″×24″, 20″×30″.
Burgees are similar to Pennants but they narrow into two points and “V” back toward the hoist. Often called a swallowtail and usually finished with heading and grommets. Common sizes are 8″×12″, 12″×18″, 16″×24″, 20″×30″.
Guidons are similar to a Flag shape in that they stay square to the fly end, they come to two points and “V” back toward the hoist. Often associated with military flags. A common size is 20″×28″.
Banners are usually rectangular in shape and finished with grommets or a pole pocket across the top. They can be made horizontally or vertically, double or single sided. Usually seen at tradeshows or special events, hanging against a wall or suspended from a ceiling, attached to a light post or hung from post to post or across a street. Often used as promotional items. Common horizontal sizes are 3′×5′, 3′×6′, 3′×8′, 3&′times;10′. Vertical sizes may include 3′×2′, 5′×2½′, 8′×3′. Across the street banners are often 3′×20′, 3′×25′, 4′×30′. This size will vary depending on the width of the street and the amount of information needed.
Feather Flags are printed with a reverse back on 200 denier nylon or polyester are finished with a 3″ (flat) pole pocket sewn shut at the top and finished with a grommet, leather tab or 4″ Velcro strip at bottom which attaches to the pole. Common sizes are 8′×2′, 10′×2′, 12′×2′, 8′×3′, 10′×3′, 12′×3′, 14′×3′. The telescoping flagpole is inserted in the pole pocket of the flag. It slides into a ground sleeve that is concreted into the ground. A ground spike or a wheel base can be used for temporary applications. The pole kits are sold separately.
Teardrop Banners are printed with a reverse back on 200 denier nylon or polyester and finished with a pole pocket on the hoist. Common sizes are 72″×21″, 96″×35″, 120″×44″. The flexible telescoping pole fits over a heavy duty ground spike that rotates 360° on ball bearings. The pole kit includes a carrying case. A cross base & water weight can be purchased for indoor or temporary applications. The pole kits are sold separately.
Sun Blade or Wave Banners are printed with a reverse back on 200 denier nylon or polyester and finished with a pole pocket on the hoist. Common Sun Blade sizes are 97″×24″, 132″×28½″, 155″×28½″. Wave sizes are 84″×21″, 120″×33″, 162″×34″. The flexible telescoping pole fits over a heavy duty ground spike that rotates 360° on ball bearings. The pole kit includes a carrying case. A cross base & water weight can be purchased for indoor or temporary applications. The pole kits are sold separately.
Decorative Banners are usually displayed vertically and are rectangular in shape. The top is finished with a pole pocket that attaches to a decorator-type flagpole that extends from the front of a building at a 45° or 90° angle. Common sizes are 26′×42′, 34′×44′, 32′×52′, 34′×50′ or 36′×54′. Lettering on a decorative banner can be made single thickness with a reverse back or double thickness to read correctly on both sides.
Table Covers drape over a table and down the back. The design is typically done on the front section of the table drape (Usually 2½′×6′ or 8′). Nylon and poly cotton twill are popular fabric for this application.

We do not recommend double-sided FLAGS for outdoor use. It makes the flag heavy and does not fly well. We recommend single thickness with a reverse back. We will make them either way.

Manufacturing Methods

Appliquéd flags, banners and table covers are typically made of nylon or poly cotton twill. The design is duplicated by hand sewing fabric to fabric. This is usually a preferred method of manufacture when one or two pieces are needed. This technique is elegant and makes a rich appearance which is most appreciated when the product or display is seen up close. This quality is commonly used at tradeshows or on indoor flag sets. The price depends on the style and number of letters and also on the complexity of the design. Color choices are found in our Fabrics section.
Embroidered flags are made for indoor or parade use. Nothing equals the rich look and feel of embroidered nylon or twill cloth (Satin Look). Any design you require can be hand stitched into a richly embroidered tapestry that you will be proud to display as a luxury symbol of your organization.
Digitally Acid Dyed flags give us the ability to print on large format digital printers with brilliant colors, high front-to-back penetration and excellent resolution. Digital printing is produced from electronic images that allow four color process designs that include shading, gradients and photographic layouts. As few as one print can be made with price breaks for larger quantities. Please provide Pantone (PMS) colors to assure we match your desired color as closely as possible. Substrates include nylon, Dacron, polyester knits and vinyl. We can print flags as large as 12′×18′.
Silk-screen, spot color, printed flags, banners and table covers are either acid dyed or surface printed with or without penetration to the backside. This method is often recommended when quantities of six or more pieces are required. The unit cost is frequently more cost effective than appliqué. The price depends on the number of colors. We can usually match Pantone colors (PMS) very closely. Please provide Pantone (PMS) colors to assure we match your desired color as closely as possible. We can print on nylon or 2 ply polyester.
Silk-screen, spot color, table printed banners are often surface printed on both sides of Sunbrella which is a strong fade resistant substrate. This is a great alternative for light post banners.
Sublimation and ink jet printing is often used on applications that are one sided or on flags that need to read correctly both sides. Double sided flags are two flags sewn back to back and sometimes need an inter-liner. This method is popular with point of purchase displays. Nylon, poly knit and tackle twill are popular fabric choices.
